Mental Health First Aid

Have you ever struggled to help a friend or loved one with mental health problems?

Are you a provider who encounters mental health issues on a regular basis?

Mental Health First Aid is a two-day training that will help providers and members of the general public respond to people who are experiencing an emotional or mental health crisis. You'll learn a five-step action plan designed to help you spot signs of depression, eating disorders, psychosis, substance abuse and anxiety; provide emergency assistance; and refer people in crisis to professional services.

Mental Health First Aid is based on a simple premise--training in emergency mental health services should be as widely available as training in CPR and traditional first aid. With that in mind, this program is designed to be as useful for people with no behavioral health training as it is for service providers.

Studies show that this program improves mental health outcomes for people who receive assistance from trainees; improves trainees' ability to assess and intervene during mental health crises; connects more people with treatment; and reduces participants' misconceptions about mental illness.
